Early Childhood Australia National Conference 2019

From Vision to Action

From vision to action is the theme for Early Childhood Australia’s (ECA) National Conference, to be held in Hobart, Tasmania, from 25–28 September 2019. The 2019 conference will expand on ECA’s strategic priorities to progress its vision of ‘Every young child is thriving and learning’.

This conference will explore current and emerging practice to enhance young children’s experiences across the spectrum of service and education settings they attend. This includes early childhood education and care (ECEC) as well as the early years of school, outside school hours care and child/parent programs such as playgroups and family centres. The conference will engage participants in a discourse on rights, wellbeing and quality improvement to facilitate deep reflective thinking to enhance ongoing professional learning and development.

Welcome from Chris Legg, ECA National President

The Early Childhood Australia (ECA) National Conference creates anticipation among those who work with young children, akin to the excitement their young charges experience in the run up to birthday parties. Early childhood educators, teachers, academics, leaders and other allied professionals from across Australia, and even further, come here to be inspired through shared ideas and experiences, in an environment conducive to collegiality and collaboration.

Delegates will be able to critically and constructively review their thoughts and actions, and also celebrate among peers the achievements attained and advancements made in improving the outcomes for children, their families and those who work with them every day.

During the 2019 ECA National Conference, and associated events, delegates will have various opportunities to meet with old and new acquaintances and to forge relationships with others in the sector.

DANE CHISHOLM Dane Chisholm utilises a whimsical and playful approach to his subject matter. Bold graphics referencing the world around him, his East Coast home by the sea, imaginative creatures and landscapes of the area—both the sparse microscopic details and the chaotic wilderness. Dane’s connection to place, as well as his stylistic influences are derived in part from his paternal Tasmanian Aboriginal ancestry. The artist’s line work and use of pattern owe much to the artistic legacy of Australian landscape art as well as the abstract art movement. The colour, quirk and naivety suggest influences from Reg Mombassa and Keith Haring, to the cartoons of Michael Leunig and loose flowing landscape lines of John Olsen. Dane has been a selected finalist in a number of prizes such as the Bay of Fires Art Prize, Burnie Print Prize, Tidal: City of Devonport Regional Art Award, Bruny Island Art Prize and the Heysen Prize in Adelaide.
