ECA Masterclass on Management Fundamentals with Ian Alchin

Managing an early childhood service regularly presents challenges, particularly for those who have trained to be educators with a primary focus on the experiences and outcomes for young children. An early childhood setting is complex and dynamic, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Developing and maintaining a harmonious and cooperative group of professionals is commonly reported as being the most challenging aspect of the management role.

This interactive masterclass draws on reliable and authoritative sources to frame management within the context of an early childhood organisation. It considers the purpose and function of management within an early childhood setting and its relationship with leadership in creating a learning organisation where its intentions are evident in people’s everyday practice. The masterclass considers the principles and practices of effective management and their congruence with the National Quality Framework (NQF). It provides the foundation for systems designed to support cohesive, productive and forward-thinking teams that can bring an organisation’s vision to life.
